Equality tech sparks discussion about harassment experienced by young people on social media

By involving 28 young women from around the world, we developed a communication prototype that we can use to spark social debate about the shortcomings of social media.
The project was executed by Gofore.

  • Young girls experience inappropriate treatment and harassment on a daily basis in digital services. The project aimed to increase girls' sense of safety and inclusion in the digital world. The goal was to promote equality through technology and support girls' equal access to becoming developers and users of technological applications.

  • Together with the design team, we organized workshops, co-developed concepts with young people, and developed a working prototype. We focused on diversity in the design process and supported the development of a girl-centered design model.

  • Based on the girls' suggestions, we developed a concept and prototype for a solution that would allow inappropriate or disturbing content encountered on social media to be reported and moderated. We communicated widely about the project and prototype, sparking discussion on the topic among technology companies.
